ID 120
Name hcf7 (GENE SYMBOL)
Synonyms (3)
GRAMENE GENEGR:0200754
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Defective processing of 16S rRNA. Pigmentation near normal due to normal
accumulation of light harvesting complexes. Deficient in many thylakoid
membrane proteins. Yellow green seedling, reduced levels of electron transport
and photophosphorylation, fluorescence induction kinetics class IV (Miles 1980,
1982). Phenotype is dosage dependent and cold-sensitive. Severe reduction in
processing at 16S rRNA; uncovered by TB-1La (Barkan E. personal communication).
Global defects in chloroplast protein synthesis (Taylor et al. 1987). Phenotype
is dosage dependent and cold-sensitive. Classification: hcf trait, very good;
yellow-green leaf trait, excellent. Viability: seedling lethal at 3- to 4-leaf
stage. (Polacco). This locus shows a dosage effect. Plants hemizygous for hcf7
are more severely affected than homozygous hcf7 individuals. Temperature
affects the severity of the phenotype. Plants at lower temperatures are more
severely affected. Genetic 2005 1 coordinates determined from these
recombination and map data: TB-1La hcf7; see MaizeGDB ID:142119. This gene was
originally curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map position was displayed on
the maize bins map if feasible.
