ID 103
Name vg1 (GENE SYMBOL)
Synonyms (1) vestigial glume1
GRAMENE GENEGR:0200566
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Dominant Vg1 glumes very small, cob and anthers exposed; upper leaves have scant
ligules. Usually male sterile due to drying of the exposed anthers but some
pollen produced if tassel is protected. Ligule vestigial, but unlike lg1 etc.
the leaf blade is oriented at a sharp angle from the culm as in normal plants.
Good separation possible at seedling stage by missing ligule (Laughnan 1956
MNL30:67). Genetic 2005 1 coordinates determined from these recombination and
map data: br1 -3- vg1 -0.6- f1; br1 -10- vg1 -3- f1; see MaizeGDB ID:60431;
60249. This gene was originally curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map
position was displayed on the maize bins map if feasible.
