| Description | Dwarf; compact and cleistogamous panicles; small spikelets. Spikelets have abnormal glumes in which the lower parts cannot be differentiated and the lemma and palea are united. As a result, the spikelets are tightly held in at flowering time, however the lodicules are normal and can swell. |
