Basic/helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factors are known to play a role in the specification of tissue types in animals. The bHLH domain is approximately 60aa in size and consists of a basic region and a helix-loop-helix region. The helix-loop-helix region contains two amphipathic alpha helices.
