Species Oryza sativa (Rice) [ GR_tax:013681 ]
Accession GR:0101290
Gene Symbol NYC1
Gene Name Non-Yellow Coloring 1
Synonyms (3)
E.C. Numbers (0)
Pathway Reactions (1) Glutamate 5-kinase
Chromosome No. 1
Gene Type CDS (Protein coding)
Has Phenotype yes
Description The gene encodes for a short-chain dehydrogenase/reductase (SDR) enzyme and is localized in plastid. It is essential for regulating degradation of Light Harvesting Complex II (LHCII) and thylakoid during senescence. However, the mutant forms of the gene avoids degradation of LHCII, thylakoids and chlorophyll, thus resulting in stay green type of phenotype.
