Chromosome No. 8
Gene Type CDS (Protein coding)
Has Phenotype yes
Description The gene encodes for a plasma membrane localized zinc (Zn) transporter. Highly expressed in meristem and phloem cells of roots and shoots under zinc deficient growth medium. The over expression of ZIP4 under constitutive 35S promoter showed higher expression in shoots and less in roots relative to vector controls. However, the Zn2+ concentration was 10x more in roots, 5x lower in shoots and 4x lower in seeds compared to controls.
Curator Comment Zinc is an essential nutrient for plants.
